Oh my deer

I recently finished this commission, mother and baby deer. I started with a lot of reference pictures and the use of a botanical garden book to find pictures of flowers that spoke to me. I first sketched everything roughly and then did a final sketch onto tracing paper to transfer the design onto mixed media paper, I used masking fluid to keep the deer's spots white. I painted this design with watercolour paint using my favourite nostalgia pallet from the Mungyo brand. Again this piece required drying the layers before adding more texture. I had a lot of fun with this and I'm planning a range of forest animals. So watch this space!
